Ever since I was a little boy I have always been fascinated with prayer. I was not raised in a Christian home, but can remember praying to this God I couldn’t see at age 5. Even though I didn’t know Christ as my personal Lord and Savior until my second year of law school, I often talked to this God who I knew must be there, but whom I couldn’t find. I know now God was walking my journey with me and preparing me for the time I would come into a personal saving relationship with Him and begin to communicate with Him on a deeper level.
Shortly after I became a Christian I was asked to pray with someone else. I remember being afraid I would look foolish. I had never prayed aloud in front of someone before except for an occasional table grace. It wasn’t long before God began to give me more opportunities to pray corporately and I began to develop a closer walk with Him. I also began to listen to His voice and to obey.
Prayer is a journey for me. I don’t think I will ever arrive at the understanding of its magnitude and depth while on this earth. Each day God shows me something new and I continue to grow in Him through prayer. I do however understand its importance. Prayer is our lifeline to God. It is our primary communication vehicle. Without prayer we cannot truly know God and we will never fully recognize His voice as He speaks to us through the power of His Holy Spirit.
